ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
I am an expressionist. I interpret the spirit of places, and of the
people who have inhabited them. I hope the viewer of my work sees not only
a "picture of something", but feels the ideas within the work, as well.
DOROTHY PETERSON'S paintings are unique and exciting expressions of
the spirit of people and landscape. The artist was born into the
multicultural world of New Mexico, and her work reflects the aura of this
magical place. Since 1980, she has maintained a studio in Roswell, NM.
Peterson's work has received numerous awards in regional and national
exhibitions, and has been included in scores of solo and group shows.
Dorothy has traveled extinsively throughout the United States and abroad,
and her sketching and painting in these locatons has given an added
dimension and richness to her work.
She has taught art history, humanities, painting and drawing on the college
level, and has taught successful painting workshops for many years. She
served as a member of the New Mexico Arts Commission from 1983 to 1996. She
is a Signature Member of the National Watercolor Society, and is listed in
Who's Who in American Art, and Who's Who of American Women.
